Mathematics

Hi Grade 3 Families,  I wanted to take the time to discuss our math program and provide you with some resources to support your children at home.  I know for many student’s math can be intimidating, but it is my goal to place a more positive outlook on the subject, which can also start at home. I encourage you to include your children in activities around the house that will promote mathematical thinking and problem-solving. If you can fit it into your schedules, try and bake with your child, encourage them to read an analog clock, and let them take part in any sort of construction activity. There are many ways to promote mathematical thinking outside of the classroom, and as much as I will try and incorporate what I can, it would be great if you provided them these enriching opportunities as well. My goal is to make math more engaging, and focus on the that are so important for your children to develop. The curriculum also focuses on social-emotional learning which i...

The Classroom Environment

Hi Parents & Guardians,  With the school year soon approaching, I would like to introduce you to our classroom setup and explain to you some of the rationale behind what is found in our classroom and ways you and your child can most effectively utilize the space and the resources. There is also time for individual work which can be done at our back table if students need extra support or they can find a quiet space around the room as well. There are ...

Classroom Schedule

Image
Hi Parents & Guardians,  I have created your child’s schedule for the upcoming school year and wanted to take the time to explain it in more detail for you.  First, you will notice I have broken down our day by the bell times which are 3 – 100-minute blocks of instruction. We also follow a 5-day cycle that will help us stay on schedule throughout the year. Please note, this schedule is subject to change as there are always disruptions and events happening that may affect our daily routine.  Second, you will notice the colour-coded schedule. Please note, this was developed in accordance with the Ontario curriculum. Here are some notes on the subjects, time allocation and the integration of subjects:  Math will be taught first thing in the morning, as your children will come with fresh minds, ready to learn. A minimum of 300 minutes needs to be allocated to mathematics instruction throughout the 5-day cycle, with the rest dedicated to mental health practice...
